In honor of our nation’s 250th anniversary, we look back on our piece Better Angels of Our Nature which celebrates the wisdom, humanity, and enduring wit of Abraham Lincoln. Through word, movement, and reflection, the work explores the ideals that continue to shape the American spirit.
Section I: Integrity
A reminder that political division and sharp rhetoric are not unique to our time. Through Lincoln’s words and leadership, this section examines the strength of character required to lead with honesty, compassion, and conviction during moments of national unrest.
Section II: Humor
Lincoln’s remarkable ability to laugh at himself reveals the humility and humanity behind the presidency. This section celebrates the healing power of humor and the wisdom found in self-awareness and grace.
Section III: Vision
Lincoln’s enduring message reminds us that democracy belongs to the people. This closing section reflects on the ideals of unity, equality, and shared responsibility — a government created of the people, by the people, and for the people.
